the ip address that you can find using http://www.whatismyip.com/. I want to change it. I am using win xp, shaw cable internet and a router. If anyone could haelp that would be great. I am not super techie on computers so as simple as possible. thx

You can buy a program that randomly changes your ip adress every second or so. Great Product i would buy it but i dont have the cash...
Oh yea i belive if you turn your cable modem off and on again it changes your ip adress

i tried it for 30 seconds and nothing happened. i wonder if i should turn everything off and then start the modem before i restart the computer??

right click "My Network Places" then click "Network Connections" then right click "Local Area Connection" then under the "General" tab highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" once this is highlighted select "Properties" then under the "General" tab in this new window check the circle that has the "Use the following IP address" and type in your IP that you desire, the only problem is that you must type in a class C IP address if you plan on accessing the internet. *example of class C is 192.168.1.101* You have to pay for a class A or B address. Your defualt subnet mask should be "255.255.255.0"

yeah thats the one thats assigned to you by your ISP, you cant change that unless you go through a router......still that just changes your inside IP address, or in other words, the address that people directly on the network with you sharing that internet connection see.......you cannot change your ISP outside IP address, thats what the world sees you as

ok

I think i was trying to change my outside ip address the one the world and forums see me as. So there is no way to get a new one. I already use a router.

You dont do a quick shut off and on you pull the power cord on the bac of the modem this casues a "true restart" whcih then changes your ip adress.

Not all ISPs do that hehe. I tried all summer to get a different IP and that never happened :P

WHy would you try all summer to get a diffent IP. If it was that hard just buy a program.... Wait so.. some isps dont let u change your ip no matter what... Then i guess the program only works with only certain isp providers.

.
Unless the program allows me to directly intereact with the DHCP server at the ISP office .... nah it wasnt impossible (litteraly); more so an inconvenience.
