How do I check all hardware to make sure it works?

My brother is convinced that some of his hardware isn't working. He thinks his modem is broken, his harddrive is broken, etc.

What program can I use to check all hardware to see that it's all working properly? (especially the wireless adapter)

go to control panel>device manager and click on the hardware in question.it will tell you if it is working properly.if he is still experiencing problems it likely lies somewhere else.

Everything works fine, but he is convinced something doesn't. I will just tell him to check device manager on whatever he thinks doesn't work.

If you could ask him specifically what is wrong with his machine that would be the best thing to do. Just saying something is broken or not working right is not good.

Sounds like PEBKAC, really. Most people resign to things as 'broken' when they falsely believe their skill set or knowledge is more vast than it is.

For things like the wireless adapter he may simply be subjected to a large amount of interference on the 2.4 GHz band.

Can it go online? If so just have him run a speed test without anything else pulling on it. See if its close to the speed its supposed to be.

What do you mean by broken? If its (broken) its not going to boot at all. Is it making noise, thinks it slow? Does he know he doesn't have a virus/malware. If not start a thread in the Computer Security section and have johnb35 run some test on it.
