i am looking to get a vid card that requires a 300w power supply, however, last time i looked in my computer i am pretty sure i saw something that said it was only 160w. My computer is only 2 years old and i heard htat 160w are not existant or very rare. So i would like to find out what wattage my computer has, if anyone can direct me that would be great.

If it was 160w, I would suggest getting a new one, as computers are demanding a lot more. AS for shecking it out, the only way I know how is by cracking open the case and looking on the side of the power supply.

just double checked, i have a 160w power supply. How do i know what my case can handle? Can i just upgrade to any old power supply, what is preferred?

Do you know which 310 it is? I think I remember seeing a 310 that had a 160W PSU that was a slim case - which is bad for upgrades since they're usually custom sized PSUs.

well i took a ruler to my case and it is 17cm(170mm) wide, 41cm(410mm) long and 39 cm(390mm) high.
No idea if this is big or small. I have no idea how to find out which 310 series it is, that is actually a guess more than anything, says it no where on my comp.

I am actually looking to upgrade my vid card (it was suggested to get a 6600 but i really don't think i can get a good one of those for 130 bucks so i am pretty sure i am going to get a fx5700 256mb or a 6200). The vid card requires at least a 300w. I was wondering if
A) Will that require a proc upgrade as well?
B) if i can upgrade my PSU, can someone find me a good one that would fit my comp for like 50-75 bucks max?

Open the case and have a look, usually there is a description sticker on the PSU or at the very least, a table and a UL number :) The table can help you determine if the PSU is good/decent or not and the UL# can be used to track the maker

PSUs are not 'bottlenecked' by cases :), so long as it fits than you can use it

Unless you're getting one of them freak AGP6200s, 6200s are PCIe only (meaning at least mobo upgrade). If you're getting an AGP card you shouldnt have to worry much about cpu/mobo upgrades. As for PSU, have a look at :
