How Do i connect my laptop 2 the internet?

Hi i have this old laptop and im trying 2 connect it 2 my cable internet, I plug it in 2 the laptop and i go 2 the internet options and stuff 2 try 2 connect it but it still wont work, Someone plz tell me how do i connect it 2 my internet THanks!
 
well, for one, i dont find it that much harder to type "to" over "2", but that may just be me...but anyway, what exactly is it youre doing to try to set up a connection?

the best thing you can do is call your internet supporter. They should be able to guide you over the phone.

Im going 2 internet properties and then connections setup then i choose connect with lan and it doesnt work still?
 
I agree with LiuLiuboy, call your internet provider. After all, you're paying for their internet service- they want you to use it. They'll walk you through it.
 
try this, go to your main computer that has internet that works and click on start, run, then type "ipconfig /release" then go to your laptop and click on start, then run, then type "ipconfig /renew"

Nope it did not work
 
Did you call up your internet provider? They will help you step by step over the phone. Just make sure your LAN port is working and you've got no IP address assigned. If you dont know how to check, they will do this over the phone with you.
 
either that you have to get a router. Or you can use the cable from your pc and plug it in there. Like mine it came with a wireless router so my doesn't need cable.
