If you have onboard video and not a separate video card installed on the HP forget it is the sad truth. Most tvs now see at least an s-video input jack while various video cards see an s-video output. The other method is DVI output from the card to tv if the tv sees a DVI input there.
There's no way to go direct from the vga or HD output from the video card into a tv unless the tv can see the dual purpose of being used as a monitor. Then you can easily extend or clone your desktop onto the tv screen.
