How do I connect to my friends computer that has wirless

Im at a friends work with her and I brought my lapto , which has a wireless card inside.

she has a linksys wiress router, however , she also has a black box that has speedstream written on it ,

the ethernet cable is going out of the black box to her main desktop computer.

I tired plugging the ethernet cable from the black box into her linksys router and then anothe ethernet cable from one of the holes on the back of the linksys router to her computer and it connects, however , it wont recieve any bytes, hence it wont pull up anything ,

I know there is some way that we can bother get on the internet, but I dont know that much about wireless

so for the time being I hooked her computer up the way it was


the ethernet cable going from the black box directly to her computer with nothing going to the linksys router

Sounds like the wireless router isn't configured properly. Are you able to get internet if you connect to the linksys router via your laptop when you have the model connected into the router?

Just to make sure, you're plugging the ethernet wire from the speedstream modem into the WAN port on the router, correct?

when i tried it i plugged the ethernet cable from the speedstreem box into the port that has internet under it , the rest of the ports have numbers , 1 , 2, 3, 4 , 5 ports on the back of the linksys router
