How do I Disable Realtek on P5KPL-AM SE

I have that motherboard and you all know it comes with Realtek Audio Chip. I've just got a new sound card named Creative ES 1371 and I wanted to install it and uninstall Realtek but everytime I tried to do that, the sound was gone. Could anyone show me how to install the new sound card. Thanks all.

What operating system do you have?

What exactly do you mean the sound was gone? The sound bar in the taskbar is gone, or an error comes up?

No sound after I uninstalled the realtek and install the Creative card. I am using XP. I've chosen the newest update for the Creative while the old driver was since 2001 but the machine kept giving me no sound.

Have you made the basic checks such as the volume mixer? There is the basic Windows mixer and there will probably be a Creative mixer too (which automatically changes the Windows mixer settings). If nothing is in the tray, go to Start > Programs > Creative. Activate the mixer and its tray settings.

I see the card was around in 2001. Perhaps that is part of the problem. I installed a Creative sound card over Realtek without issues but it was a relatively recent model.

I would choose the onboard audio over that old soundcard anyday. Any particular reason why you are choosing the outdated soundcard over high definition audio?

Yep, but my set of speakers is 4.1 and that sound chip is totally NOT making the good pair with the speakers. I think that would be the very best reason, OK? :D

Wow! That is the best solution which I've known. Maybe I didn't pay attention to that. Thanks a million.

I was going to suggest something along the lines of Johnb35's comment, except I would have suggested buying a cheap modern card. He's correct though, the Realtek is almost certainly better. The ES 1371 is so old I could not find any useful data to compare with Realtek. I'm using Realtek on one PC and it sounds pretty good to me. The reason I'm looking for a cheap card on that PC is to relieve the CPU of the audio task.

There should be a small plug labeled hd audio or realtek ac97 etc that you plug into the motherboard. Check the manual, it will tell you where it goes. When you get into your os there should be a section for audio devices in your control panel, look under sound. It will list all devices being used with the system, choose the one you want to use- and disable the other.
