I have a widescreen monitor and when i play movies i still get the black bars for widescreen but i dont need them since my monitor is widescreen. Is there a way to get rid of those black bars. I am using PowerDVD is there a way i can do it in that program or is there a free program that does it.

No. That's the ghey thing about having a widescreen. I have a 53" Panasonic widescreen in my livingroom. I rent widescreen movies. I get those stupid lines on the top and bottom, even when I set the DVD player to widescreen. What the hell is the point?

When putting a movie to full screen a part of the movie is croped and expanded. So even thought the image is 'flattened' on a widescreen you technically see more of the original movie.

I agree though, it is kind of dumb.

those black bars make me despise widescreen but after a few minutes of watching the movie i forget about them but the first few minutes is excruciating

the actual aspect ration in a theatre is more than 16:9 which is why you still have the bars, but yet movies are shot in widescreen so you see all that the producers wanted you to see so it some cases its actually a better movie

Ok i was hoping that there would be a solution for it guess not.

Ya i know i hate them but i forgot about them after the first few mintues to guess i just have to get used to it.

what is the aspect ratio in the theater cause my monitor is at 16:10 or is it more then that.

its actually less cuz a 16:10 is more square than a 16:9

but next time you go to the movies notice the aspect ration there, and you'll see that its a whole lot wider

if you didnt have widescreen tv than the bars would be thicker and thusly less more viewing size

*EDIT*

the actual aspect ration they use in a theatre is 2.35:1 which is pretty much a 16:6.8 angle which is much wider than 16:9

heres a link about widescreen and what they do to dvds

Wouldn't it be nice if they could just stick with an aspect ratio ('widescreen' doesn't necessarily mean 16:9 - you may still get bars with many movies).

Your only real options are stretch or zoom.
