How do I download/install drivers if I don't have a connection to the internet?

New Member
My new computer should be here by the end of the week, and I'll be ordering a wireless USB adapter to go along with it so I can be connected to the internet (the wireless USB adapter I have now will just stay with this computer). This is only assuming the drivers aren't up-to-date, or something goes wrong, but if the wireless adapter didn't work, how would I update the drivers with no connection to the internet? I see people telling others to always "see if they have the latest drivers" when their wireless USB adapters are messing up, but how do they do this with no connection to the internet?...

On a side note/question, maybe some of you have some good suggestions, but what is a wireless USB adapter, preferably between $10-$30, that definitely works with Windows 7? Windows 7 will be my new operating system, so I need to be sure the adapter would work on it...and be in that price range as well...

When we needed to get drivers for a laptop that had XP we just did it on another computer and used a flash drive to transfer them over

You mean "Laptop".

And yeah, usually you just put them on a flashdrive from another computer. Another option is to use a Wireless-USB adapter like I do.

What? but a wireless-USB adapter is what I was talking about. :confused:

I'm saying if the wireless-USB adapter wasn't connecting to the router, if something was wrong with it, what would you do then?

and great...I don't have a flash drive... :(

I agree with Gooberman - just download the drivers you need to a flash drive on the computer you're using right now.

As far as recommending a USB wireless adapter, I bought one of these three or four years ago and it still works great:

$24 and up From Google Shopping

If you don't have a flash drive, I guess you could use CD-Rs or whatever you do have. Or buy one. Also, the Wireless USB Adapter will come with a CD that has the drivers you'll need... so no worries there.

Yeah, I do have some CD-Rs. and yeah I know about the disk coming with it, but I've still seen some people having problems...so who knows. Guess I'll just decide on which wireless USB adapter to go with and then see where it goes from there...
 
yup i agree, go on another computer and download them to a USB stick (or equivalent) and then transfer them that way.
 
Thanks. I doubt that something will go wrong, but I'll know what to do if it does go wrong...(hopefully).

Now, can I get some more recommendations on wireless-USB adapters? Like I said, preferably between $10-$30...and MUST be compatible with Windows 7.
 
What, you didn't like the Belkin adapter I posted? Well, I also have one of these:

$12.99 from NewEgg

Works really well 60ft from the router. Had it for six months.

I should think any newer USB wireless adapter would be compatible with Windows 7 that is compatible with XP. I guess you should Google "wirelessAdapterName Windows 7 driver" if you have any doubts...

Thanks. and I did appreciate both suggestions. I'm just trying to gather a list of possible USB adapters and then decide from there.

Will do. Thanks for the help. :) My computer should be here by tomorrow or Friday, the USB adapter should be here Friday or *gasp* Monday. So I'll just have to see how that goes...

Hopefully after I have everything together, everything will be compatible and nothing will go wrong.
