How do I find out how far I can upgrade my mother board?

I can't even identify it, I can find it listed in any of the hardware profiles etc, so the only thing I can think of is to look for a code on the actual board, but I don't know where to look on the board and even if I do identify it, I don't know where to go on the internet to see about it's upgradibility restrictions.

So what do I do?

First off, why do you need to upgrade the motherboard? It will still need to support all your other components, most importantly your CPU and RAM. Second, is the computer home built or store bought like a Dell or Gateway?
 
Grap CPUz (www.cpuid.com) and check out the various tabs (especially the Mainboard tab). With that info you can look up the "supported hardware" lists
