How do I find RAM specs without user manual?

My brother has a PC with P4 3.0 Ghz, 512 mb ram, 120 Gb HD. Basically he wants to add another stick of 512 mb, but doesnt have the user manual. How can he ascertain the speed, type, etc.? Could he just turn off PC, open up case, and look at the stick already installed?

If the RAM has a sticker on it with its features yes he can.

What type of computer is it? Delll or did you build it? If its a manufactured computer he can look up that model # adn see what speed memory it takes.

Download CPU-Z It can tell you the speed of the ram as wel as some other things.

Everest home bench mark will read the ram and tell you default setings

I tried to download Everest HE and because im on a home network i cant use it. It comes with a pop-up saying "you need Professional edition". But you have to buy that or use the somewhat crippled free trial version. Kinda sux.
