How do I install W7 on my new SSD if it is on my HDD?

I want to do a fresh install of my W7 on my SSD but it is already installed on my HDD. What steps should I take to remove it from my HDD so that I can reinstall it on the SSD.

1. How do I remove Windows 7 from my HDD?
2. Do I remove it first, then install it on the SSD?
3. Can someone provide me with a clear list of steps that I should follow when doing this?

(I know there are ways to clone my hdd on to my ssd but that requires backing up all my files then deleting enough so that they fit on my SSD)

Thanks for all the help! This forum has served me well.

First, awesome name. Voyager is my favorite (assuming we are talking about star trek here, otherwise ignore this)

Second, when you say "just delete the Windows folder...", do you mean when I boot up and the ssd has windows on it already I just go into my files and delete anything with "Windows" in the name?

1: Yes, it's Star Trek.

2: Boot to the SSD and then delete the Windows folder on the HDD.

Hey, i got around to installing my ssd but ive run into problems...
So i first installed windows 7 by going in to the bios and making it boot the cd first. Out of the three places to install it, i choose unallocated space which was approximately the size of my ssd. (The other two options were my hdd partition, where i originally installed w7 when making my comp, and the rest of the hdd space)

Im pretty sure I installed windows7 in the right place because when I load my comp from my hdd and go to "computer" in the start menu, I can see my HDD and the SSD both there. If i open the ssd (which is set as E drive) I can see the files inside it.

Next, I restart my computer and went in to the bios once more and changed the boot priority to my ssd. However, it never gets past a black screen right at the start that says:

BOOTMGR MISSING
CTRL + ALT + DEL TO RESTART

I have no idea what to do..

You need to disconnect all other drives from your system when you install windows to the SSD. The reason being is that you created a dual boot now and all the boot files are on the other drive. So disconnect all drives but the SSD and reinstall windows and you'll be fine.

Just pop the install cd back in and reinstall windows, delete existing partition on the SSD, repartition and install.

Just gotta say, Deep Space Nine rapes Voyager... ;)

I don't see why everyone needs to make Star Trek references about my name when they see it

At that point in time I had not seen DS9 yet. Of course by now I've seen every episode of every series.

I dont no if my question still belongs in the OS Section of the forum but here goes:

I installed windows 7 on the SSD with nothing else plugged in and now when I select it as the 1st boot priority it does NOT give the "BOOTMGR MISSING" error. So it loads up and goes to the desktop. HOWEVER... its a desktop that you would see when first turning on a new computer. (Resolution is low(no drivers), background is default, no icons, etc.) So..

1. Do I need to reinstall all my drivers but to my SSD now?
- I dont see why it cant access the information from my HDD. Also does it affect speed if the drivers are on the SSD(Just out of curiosity, if it does I would have ended up putting the drivers on the SSD anyways)

2. Am I supposed to have this clear desktop with none of my icons?
- Can it not get the info from the HDD? If so, why?

Assuming all the questions 1 & 2 above are answered with "Yes"
3. Can I just make shortcuts of all the stuff I previously had AND access all games and things I had downloaded by going to Start Menu > Computer > My HDD > MY STUFFS!

EDIT: 4. If all of that up there is solved. Do I then go to my HDD and delete the windows and windows.old files?

Yes all drivers need to be reinstalled. Is your hdd have data and power cable attached? You may just have to assign a drive letter in disk management. All programs will have to be reinstalled. You will have an empty desktop when doing a fresh install. Just add desktop icons.

All programs will have to be reinstalled.

Alright, so i need to reinstall all my drivers.

But why do I need to reinstall all my programs? I understand anything I want on my SSD needs to be reinstalled but what about games and things I DONT want on my SSD. I can simply just make shortcuts right?

Because most programs require registry entries and other system files to run properly. You just can't create shortcuts from another drive. You can reinstall the games and apps on the hdd, just change the install directory at the beginning of the install.
