How Do I Know if USB Port is 2.0?

I just got a used computer and I need to get a USB adapter but I don't know if the USB port on this computer is 1.1 or 2.0. If I get a 2.0 adapter but the port is only 1.1, will that matter? And if so, how do I find out if the port is 2.0?

Easiest way is probably just to research your system a bit. What's the model of computer or motherboard? Most systems don't require any special software or drivers for USB 2.0 when running XP, so I suspect the computer does simply have USB1.1, but better off to check around first...

I dont know how you can tell if the port is 1.1 or 2.0

But im sure the 2.0 will be backwards compatiable with the 1.1 so it should work but slower?

They are backwards compatible, and if you plug a 2.0 device in a 1.1 slot, it will pop up with a message about trying to find 2.0 USB ports.

In device Manager it should be listed something like-Standard Enhanched USB controller then below it should say 2.0 USB Root Hub
