how do i know if i should allow a site through my firewall? i can regconise what most of the sites that want to be let through are but i also dont know if i should allow them how do i know?

If you feel the need to let a site through, let it through. If you don't trust it, don't. It's up to you what you let through or not, it's hard to give someone advice on that.

What are you afraid of in letting websites through? If they're legitimate sites, there's no reason why they shouldn't be let through. If they're dodgy, there's a good chance of viruses, information bar popups etc. Just use your judgement as to how nessecary access to a site is, and how reputable the site is.

Basicly most sites are good(clean). Just stay away from the torrent sites and especially porn sites. Also firefox helps keep you more secure.

if i access a site and its asks me if i want to allow it then i allow it but if ive been browsing on a site for a little while i will be asked if i want to allow something that ive need heard of, and that im not accessing. so yeah, thanks guys, i think ive got good jugdement so we'll see. thanks!!!

I am using firefox and i am behind a router and i havent had one virus. So yea, you should be fine, just dont look at porn!:P

I have firefox and no firewall, and never had a virus. However, I do use NoScript, and I don't go to any "bad" sites....so just know what you are doing.

That's brave, even with Firefox. Still, it's worked for you no problem. Perhaps I ought to get off my backside and switch from IE one of these days, last time I tried and install it it failed for some reason, but I didn't make much of an effort to fix it.

Well I also have Adblack and CookieSafe....I don't know how much difference those make, but whatever. Actually, if I had a virus, I wouldn't know, I don't have any antivirus software  Yeah, I know, but if my computer starts acting weird, I will investigate.
