Hi lovely people at computerforum =)

I got myself a new hard drive today and now I have ran in to some troubles.
I have put the hard drive in (a SATA 640GB western digital WD6400AAKS) and it seems that things work okay, cause I find the hard drive in the system manager and it says things are working okay. (not sure if it´s the correct english name =/)

Problem is that I cant figure how to make a partion out of it, when Im looking at partion type in the system manager it say "not suitable" or something simualar (have a swedish windows vista version). Hope this is´nt a big problem =/

Would be really grateful if someone could help me out here!
Plz have a kind eye on any strange grammar/spelling =)

If you are able to completely translate the error I might be able to help with that.

The way to create a partition is you right click on my computer and pick computer management. Then you open the storge tree (click the + beside it) and click on disk management. Then right click on the drive's unallocated space and pick new partition and follow the steps in the wizard that starts.

Thanks for the reply, im afraid that it did´nt solve the problem so I try to be more specific.

When I go into the computer management and the click on the disk managment I find my hard drive. The problem is when click on the hard drive and look under "Volume" (I hope is the english name =P). I can see the hard drives capacity which is 610480 MB, but above where it´s says "partion type" it says "not suitable". And the unallocated spaces says 0 MB free which it should´nt be, or so I think at least =).

Another thing that I noticed now is that my other two hard drives is refered to as standard "type" and that my new hard drive say "type" unknown".
Dont know if this is of any importance =/

Would really appreciate if u guys could help me out!

If it´s some mistranslated term or something that sounds strange plz says so and I will try to explain it better =/

Okay thanks for responding once again.

So if I got this right you guys think I already have a partion on my hard drive but I cant use/see it. Well it´s a improvement that I know what´s causing the problem.

Begin to feel that im in a little bit over my head though, I tried to download the program you linked me to Cromewell (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/) but I cant say I made much sense of it. Downloaded the latest stable version of GParted and extracted it, and I got a "OUT-file" which I have no idea what to do with.

Well I shall try to get hold of a Windows-Xp a make a partion with that, dont know if I will have any more luck there but I´ll make it a try at least.

Thanks for the help anyway

you should get the one you need to burn to CD. I think the other version is a unix binary so that wont work in windows.
