How do i overclock my Q6600 2.4 ghz Kentsfield

Ive read its done in Bios and that is all.. will the stock heatsink and fan support a over clock up to say 3.2 ghz.. and what changes would i see in preformance doing this?.. right now my tempatures r running around 45 degrees C on all my cores and the processor itself is at 37 degrees.. what would be a safe reading once i am done overclocking?

1: Use Real Temp for temp monitoring

2: use the newest version of prime95 since it supports multiple cores.

always use small FFTs to stress the CPU to the max.
3. If your motherboard has an option for "load line calibration" or anything else that is supposed to help vDroop, then enable it.
4. start at stock voltages and work your way up while bumping your FSB about 3-5 mhz. Q6600s can handle a ton of heat but I wouldn't go any higher than 70C on load for any core. I've noticed a lot of Q6600s have a stability hole just above 3 Ghz so if you get crashes there, you might want to bump up your voltages and jump to 3.2Ghz once you reach 3Ghz.
5. I recommend you keep your multiplier at 9.

Average overclocks pretty much say you can get to at least 3 Ghz (333x9) at or slightly above stock voltages.
I have my q6600 (B3) at 3.2Ghz on 1.35 vCore.

I ran prime95 and did a stress test at the same time as running Realtemp ... my core temps got to between 75 and 85 degrees C by the second test.. so i stopped it ... im guessing im gonna need better cooling before i overclock?

looks like it.

This is a very good cooler for a decent price. It beats out many coolers that are more expensive. I replaced my old crappy water-cooling with this and it is definitely an improvement.

do you have the fan mounted on the side of your case?

antec900 has very good cooling abilitys, are all the fans positioned as standard?

Al lthe cooling fans that came with the case are installed and working properly.. i didnt add anything to it.. there is a big fan on the top of the case 2 in the front and 1 in the back ...

is this normal to see tho with stock cooling for this processor? ... im just worried i have a cooling issue all together

is it possible to mount a fan on the side tho? on the plastic window on my case

yeh, if its the antec900 in yer sig... there is a plastic surrounding that holds the fan

i have antec900 and 1200 both with side mounted fans

yeh!

i got the spot cooler blowing onto the graphics cards, its taken air from the side case fan

and i got the ram cooler on taking air from the fron intake fans

yeh but the pic there is the antec 1200 which has one extra fan on the back and one on the front!

this is my antec 900

looks are not important, most important is the temps-once you have the desired temps then go for the looks

so what are some things i can do to lower my temps.... my temps read as of right now

maybe a little hard to read

i know to get a better heatsink and fan .. but what else

heatsink and fan, some good Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound and a fan on the side of your case!

should be good to go then
