I know reformating won't do all of it.What is a good free program that works very well?I don't have a OS disc or anything. How can I wipe my hd & keep my OS software & other software so I wont need any discs to get the computer to run again?Im new to this & never done it.

There's no way to format your drive without clearing everything off. Even if you could simply remove your programs and such, OS-related files can become altered for whatever reason (corruption, viruses, etc).

Assuming you have a legit key, if you could find a copy of whatever version of Windows you have installed, you could simply reload it and use your key again to activate it.

Well depending on how your hard drives are partitioned, you could simply go into disk management, or get Discwizard.

There also may be a hidden partition on the drive that is loaded with the recovery console. Check disk management and see if there is. Right click "computer" on the start menu and click "Manage". A window will pop up. On the left side of the window click "Disk Management".

The product called WipeDrive allows you to erase your hard drive so it is unrecoverable by anybody. They also came up with this awesome new product called SystemSaver that will wipe your entire hard drive while saving your operating system.

If it does have a hidden partition, this should work :

When the makers splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.
