Hi,
I have a 2007/8
Toshiba Satellite A300
1.83 C2Duo
3 GB RAM
Vista
15" wide
no video card.

one of these <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0my7HR7E1oI&feature=related>

How can I tell if it has bluethooth.
It used to work with the Toshiba software + my USB dongle.
Then the software lapsed its 60day trial period.
I can't seem to get my Bluesoleil to work.
Something about a stack.

a) do I have built in bluetooth? (you'd expect so)
b) what free software is out there that works with vista?

I just want to tsfr stuff to and from my phone like I did with my 2003 laptop!

Any ideas please?

Thanks,
Warren

First you will have to buy a bluetooth usb stick these are relatively cheap on ebay , then you just go to "my computer" and it should show up and now there should be some options and you must configure them however you want . You should then be able to use bluetooth

I think from his post he says he already has a bluetooth dongle. Yes, there is free software, do a download.com or google search for it, still running into problems get a hold of me through IM i will be happy to help you. :)

yes thanks.
I already have a dongle. But my laptop is pretty new.. how can i tell if it has built in BT?
It worked with the toshiba proprietary software (until it expired).
Now even with the dongle I cannot use my BT Bluesoleil software.

PLease recommend a trusted link for downloading these apps... there are soo many out there I don't know which to download for my baby.

All I want it for toshiba to talk to my LG Ph.

THanks,
Warren

To check for BT, look online at the specs, if it has BT built in it will be advertised, also you can disconnect your BT dongle then check the device manager, this will tell you too.

It seems very strange to me that toshiba would have an expiry on their own software on their own laptop. What is the name of the software? Are you sure its not Bluesoleil that has expired?

What is the model of the laptop?

What is the model of the dongle?

Make sure you have BT turned on. On your keyboard there should be a hotkey for switching BT on and off, make sure you haven't turned it on. Plug in the dongle and hit this key a few times, see if it works... Keep me informed!

Windows XP has a bluetooth stack built in to SP2
all you have to do is google the manafacturer of your bluetooth dongle and install its drivers
then plug it in and everything should work

my satellite model is:
PSAG0A-02100Q

OR

A300-100

Bluetooth dongle is no-name from online store.
I have VISTA not XP.
there is a hotkey for Wifi but not BT.

I could not find your model with the numbers you gave me, but based on other models that came up i believe that your computer DOES have bluetooth built in... you will need to

1)disconnect your dongle
2)go into device manager
3)find the manufacture and model of the bluetooth that is built in
4)search toshiba's support for a new (possibly updated) bluetooth stack
5)install the stack.

this should fix your problem.

HI there,
I tried the above suggested remedy to no avail unfortuntely.

When I get to the very end, after restartin vista, it says: thank you for evaluating the Toshiba Bluetooth software (it actually used to work prior to the 60 day eval period).

I then tried third party BT software; Bluesoleil - which say that it cannot detect Bluetooth dongle.

sadness again - any ideas guys?
Please?

Thanks.

(it actually used to work prior to the 60 day eval period).

So you do actually have BT, go to hardware/devices/bluetooth ensure that its enabled and enable it, check to ensure that its turned on if its not turn it on refer to your manual as I dont know your system.

Next check that your drivers are updated or have not been uninstalled.

This is the driver list for your model there is a blue tooth stack and a blue tooth monitor check those out

when you say BT dongle do you mean you plug it into your USB? (sorry i have to ask) if so does windows recognize the device when you plug it in and when its plugged in can you see it under "My Computer" if you can right click properties and get the name for it and DL the driver or repost that info here and we can try to help you further.

Hope that was some help.

Humvee.
Yes I have a USB dongle.
No, vista can't see it, although as said before, it used to accept it prior to the end of the 60 day Eval period.
That looks like a dead link you sent?
ANyway... I have DL and installed the latest BT stack from the Tosh website.
Still no good with either the Toshiba software (expired) or 3rd party Bluesoleil.

Ideas please?

Sorry that link was for www.Toshiba.com.au its the driver support page for A300 (PSAGOA) series. for some reason toshiba dosn't let you direct link to driver pages.

Anyways having the software shouldn't matter I just dug through some boxes and found my bluetooth dongle that I have not used in about a year and plugged it in, Vista automatically installed the drivers. then I used the BT icon to connect to my SE W810i and was able to transfer a song to the phone and use it as a remote without any third party software, I can however now use the software that came with my phone if I want.

So I suggest uninstalling that software and it should delete the drivers as well and try connecting your BT again. Other then that I have no other ideas.
