I have an older toshiba satellite with a intel m 1.6ghz processor and 512mb memory, I want to give this notebook to my mother and buy a new one.

How are these cheap notebooks with these sshd's? like this:

How would this compare performance wise? The toshiba was $1200 when it was new. this one like $400. I assume the performance would be similar considering the toshiba is about four years old. The linux operating system is pretty cool on this cheap notebook. I'm not too worried about performance, I have a desktop for gaming. Thoughts?

to be honest im not a real fan of the new cheap and small laptops, they do lack in power and space. it really depends what you want it for. if its just word processing and web browsing it will be more than adequate. and i think you would find that the performance would be better. plus its smaller and more practical. Just dont expect it to blow you away.

It's probably slower than your Toshiba, as it uses the Intel Atom processor. I'd suggest you get a cheap full size notebook. You can grab a cheap Acer for like $400 sometimes.
