how do u adjust ram voltage

my system has been running unstable and i thought it was my motherboard.. the computer wouldnt boot just went into a infinite cycle of turning on and off.. so i found out it was a jack on my motherboard.. i called the tech rep bout it and he had me remove my ram modules and the bio battery or something and then put everything back in. it worked fine but he told me i need to change the voltage on my ram. i looked at BIOS and didnt see what my rams voltage was and any option to turn it up.. how would i go about doing this
 
What the rech advised there was removing the coin shaped lithium battery out of it's holder on the board in order to clear the cmos information. The person you spoke had you remove the memory to see if one dimm was bad or simply needed to be reseated from being raised up in a dimm slot there.

Adjusting the actual voltages in the bios is done with care so as not to go over what the memory is designed for. Knowing the specifications for the brand ans type of memory installed is the first thing to look at to know the voltage settings. If the memory runs at 1.8v upto 2v you don't set it at 2.6v!
 
yes the Voltages r 1.8-1.9 but im not sure what its actually running at on my board. how do i check and adjust if i need to ?
 
First know the voltages you can run the memory by a look at the actual specifications. The auto setting in the bois can set to manual to see the memory run at one specific voltage by adjusting with the menu once set to manual. What that does is keeps the memory at one voltage rather then seeing the bios auto adjust depending on load and demand.

If you have a need to see 1.9v there you would set it to 1.9v to see it kpet there even while the system was idle. Often gamers will step it up a notch like from 2.5v memory on older DDR types to 2.6 or 2.7v there due to the pull on the memory itself in order to see a slight boost in performance. Going over what the memory is designed to run at however can easily damage memory fast.
