hey, how can i watch hdtv on my computer? ive got a 7600gt

make sure ur card&monitor support HDCP if hdtv that u said refers to blueray disc/Hddvd.or else you cant play it absolutely..
there are no above boring questions with download 1080p/720p movie.

so... the question is,shhhhhh^_^

A 7600gt will play hd just fine, and monitor doesnt matter.

no no no,you wanna play one hdtv disc, your hardwares must support HDCP including monitor.
HDCP is "High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection" which has been used on blueray/hddvd for anti-piracy.Programs with HDCP&AACS can only be played on the equipments support HDCP or else u'll get a pretty low resolution(about quarter resolution) or even nothing.
AACS is a encrypt-code tec,as I know.

my bargain philips monitor does not support HDCP but it's just okey cause I dont even buy a blueray/hd rom.further more 19" lcd resolution cant reach full hd(1080).

Yeah, that's my beef. I can watch downloaded HD content, but If I bought the disc, I wouldn't have the Optical drive and if I did, HDCP would disallow my monitor. It's just a bunch of DRM crap. [/grumbles]

ok so i can watch hdtv with my 7600gt, how would i connect it to watch free hd tv? cus in australia, theres HD channel 10, and i wanna watch the shows comming out on it

you can see a HDCP label on monitor support it.
it's just a info security attestation such as TCO99/03 or sth...

The monitor has to have a DVI/HDMI connection, I think that's the only limitation. But not all DVI monitors are HDCP capable, they have to distinctly state that they are. It's a confusing mess, like every other Industry endeavor to limit consumer choice, and to force compliance.

As to what it is.. I believe it's a sort of authentication process. The DVD, video card/drivers and monitor have a digital signature, or an encrypted key. For the HD-DVD to function as it's supposed to the signal has to be verified and authenticated on each level, only then is the feed displayed on screen. It might be more complicated than this, but this is how I understand it. :shrugs:

1.digital interface
2.support full hd
3.most important is manufacturer is willing to pay for this "HDCP capable" label, hehe
