How do you completely remove an OS?

I am about to do a fresh install of windows 7. Currently I have both Ubuntu and 7 installed. How do I completely remove Ubuntu before inserting my restore discs? I am worried the restore discs won't remove Ubuntu on its own or somehow interfere with the installation process.

Use a disk utility program to delete the existing partitions and then repartition. Or put the drive in another system and do it from there.

However, I prefer to use a live CD of GParted. It works really well. That is what I would do.
