how do you know how much power you need??

Sorry for a late post, but I'm new. Looking up the specs of the components you plan on using should provide what they draw in voltage, amps, and/or watts. Watts is what you need to calc. Assuming you can calc watts for the total load of your rig you should aim total load at around 80% total load the PSU is able to handle.
