how do you overclock?

how do you overclock a processor? i really need a guide to how to do this to my computer (Compaq Pro D5Sm, 512mb Ram, Intel P4 @ 1.5GHz, WinXp) i want to increase the processor speed by quite a bit maybe 3GHz can someone tell me EXACTLY how to do this and also If i need any additional hardware such as a better cooling system

I really doubt you will be able to overclock with a prebuilt computer. Go to bios and see if u have options to change fsb or voltages. If not then so much for overclocking :x

Prebuilt means most likely locked bios. If not, then it means your mobo is a terrible overclocker. You might squeeze an extra couple Mhz out of it, but nothing so drastic as an 100% increase as you're hoping. It also means your heat sink is ancient and stock. A new cooler is recommended, but not even close to worth the performance increase. If nothing else, clean the dust out of it, but shy of that, it's about all you can do. A ram upgrade would probably be more practical performance booster.
