here is my build so far, I am looking for the best full tower amd build I can get for under 2k.

tower: cooler master haf x (just awesome) 190$
Mobo: gigabyte's new ga-990fxa (most features) 250$
CPU: amd's 8 core bulldozer when it comes out. 200-300$ i think
Heatsink: thermalrite archon w/ 2nd 140mm fan (I hear it is the best) 80$
GPU: radeon 6970 by gigagyte, (3x fans looked good) 350$
SSD: 120g kingston hyper x (had the fastest read and write times) 360$
HD: western digital 1tb 7,200rpm 64mb cache, (again fastest read and write times) 80$
Memory: 16g of ripjaws 1600 sttuff (idk is there better here?) 100$
PSU: is the cooler master 1000watt pro gold series, fully modular for 200$
OP: asus blueray burner/reader with dvd ect
any suggestions on where I can improve? my goal is the most future proof destop, so I want the best If I have not mentioned that already lol do you forsee any compatibility issues or anything else like that here? oh and I am going to try ubuntu 8)

oh also, once my gpus become outdated, how much power would I need if I decided to upgrade to 4x 6970's assuming the scaling is where it needs to be? 1200whatts?

totals to roughly 1,900$.

thanks.

4 GPUs is pointless, even 3 is unnecessary. Always remember that one powerful GPU is better than x amount of older GPUs. When the 6970 becomes outdated (Will be a while until it does) getting more of them will not necessarily make games faster. And your board has only 2 16x slots, so getting a third 6970 for the 8x slot won't give you a performance boost.

And get 8GB of RAM. For gaming, it won't use more than this, and when it does, there will be new, faster RAM out, so that means new CPU, new board, new everything else. Upgrading a build when new stuff comes out is hard due to compatibility with new sockets, boards, etc.

I would steer away from coolermaster PSUs. They're all right, but better brands are corsair, antec, pc power and cooling, silverstone, seasonic, and xfx. 750w is plently of power for 2 GPUs. If you go 4, 1000w would be enough.

+1 for the GPU, Memory.
I would get a single GTX 580.
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold are good, they are not bad as other Cooler Master PSUs.
And the PSU is over kill, you do not need that much Wattage, I would stay stick to an 850W PSU from Corsair or Seasonic, so that you can go SL whenever you want.

honestly the gpu comparison should come down to one thing and one thing only.

what screen resolution are you going to be running at? if you are running at 1920x1080 or eq. you shouldnt need more than a single gtx570. dont let people steer you past that, if you plan to do multiple displays or more than that resolution (which will be a pricey monitor btw) go with a 580 or possibly more than one graphics card...and seriously what the hell is with these multi slot cards...they look seriously stupid...and must sag like hell... three slot cooler to keep a 580 cool? really unnecessary to me imho. grab a card with a warranty, like a evga. dont get a card with no support like that galaxy.

i do agree, but i do have a question for you (more for my personal use). Is it possible to run 3 monitor in 3D? Specifically i was looking to get 3 @ 24". If it is possible would 1 card work? i wouldn't think it would, thought i would have to run 2x GTX 580 sli. No?

im not so sure you can run spanned with 3D enabled, and if you could...it would be pretty damn expensive just in panels...and if you want to run 3D with one card...i think you need ati, not nvidia, as far as i know
