im trying to find an upgrade that will last me a while. How does this setup sound? feel free to give me suggestions, im not sold 100% on DDR3 RAM but it seems if i want an i7 i have to go ddr3. Is the i7 worth it? Anyways heres wut im thinking...

Core i7s are very fast, but if you can wait you might want to wait for the Phenomenon IIs to come out it will drop the prices on the core i7s. I think there comming out in Feb.

As for the RAM core i7 boards use a tri-memory setup not dual so you will want to get either a 3bg(3x1GB) or a 6GB(3x2GB) set.
 
Or you could also build a really good Core 2 quad system for alot cheaper. You can get one of the top end Core 2 quads for a little more then the cheapest core i7 but the RAM and MOBO will cost you alot less, im building a new rig shortly after Xmas and heres the MOBO//CPU//RAM ill be using if you want to look at it.

All three of those running at about 600$
 
Just get Quad core not i7, i7 is just overpriced atm and it makes you buy all the parts you need for it which is another waist of money
