How exactly does having an OEM Vista get tied to your system?

It only tied to your motherboard meaning that once you replace it you will have to purchase a new copy of windows vista, based on what I know and I may be wrong. This is less seen on a retail copy of windows vista, hence the price.
Anyway, I suppose the similar second generated thread was unknowingly created? Sometimes you just need to wait for the webpage to reload completely as an attempt to do so may unexpectedly causes the double thread.

When you realize a duplicate thread is created you have to move fast to press the edit button and choose the delete thread option seen there before someone else posts on it. The duplicate will be removed shortly anyways by a mod now.

With prebuilt systems the OEM recovery disks provided are bonded to that machine alone. Generally those are special ordered directly from Microsoft by the pc manufacturer where all serial number is logged bonding the disk there.

For the OEM releases for System Builders you are simply referring to the lack of the retail carton and large paperback book on that version of Windows to save on the price tag. Those that build generally are already familiar with Windows and how to to install OSs to begin with while those that sell custom builds have to provide a third type of OEM disk to go with the systems they sell.

cant delete threads, not even the first post. once you post you can only edit what you put

In the first minute it's possible if you realize a duplicate was made. After those several seconds however it's just like when you want to correct something in a post you see the last edited at seen under the post itself. Then you have to have a mod delete it for you. I've goofed once or twice and worked fast to see the dupe deleted before the few seconds were up.

Now on one type of OEM license,
new PCs. The outside of the pack states "Intended for PC and server manufacturers or assemblers ONLY". http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/licensing/FY06_FAQs.pdf You are looking at the custom build vendors as well as HP or Dell in that sense while not being glued to one machine if unopened lile those glued by HP, Dell, etc. there.

For determining the type of disk you have like branded for HP etc. or sold with new machine if not volume licensed or Action Pack for an XP cd, http://www.technibble.com/how-to-tell-what-type-of-windows-xp-cd-or-license-key-you-have/
