How far can computers improve within the next year?

that system looks pretty speedy and should be good for a year, but the only problem is the processor, the one in it is currently the second newest intel processor since they've released the Core 2 Duo's. So my suggestion would be this, if you want a pc that won't be outdated for a while buy one with a core 2 duo, if you just want something that will be fine regarding it's performance for a good while i would think what you have there would be fine.

Thank you for the reply. I think I will follow your advice and wait for a Duo 2 version.

Would you say that the other specs are adequate for a good future, or would you advise a few other updates?

check the video card, i'm not really sure how many newer cards there are since that one, but even if it is older you could always buy a new one later. like i said i'm not really sure, its probably a pretty good card

One thing I can tell you. HP/Compaq sucks, so try and avoid them at all costs.

Definitely get a Core2Duo.

Technology advances so fast that you can't keep up. Waiting for six months is foolhardy, unless you just started this thread to have someone to talk to. In six months, the computer you were waiting for will be outdated and there will be something better. That's always the way it is. Never wait for the next best thing. Always buy the best you can afford now and get the most you can out of it. And always expect to lose money. Lots of it. This isn't a cheap hobby.

good point, and in reference to HP, the computer will function they do have warrantys after all, so they can't just put out computer that don't work, no one would buy them, but down the road you may have problems. Depending on the price it is possible you could build your own with similar specs for cheaper

They have shitty tech support, they don't treat their customers very well, they're a pain in the butt to upgrade, they can be a pain in the tush to service....what more can I say?

I have tested HP many times the past Month just to see if they would answer and help if needed. Each time I e-mailed a question to their support I had a really good answer in about 5 min.s even on a Sunday evening at 8pm.

My HP computer has been flawless best system I ever bought.

About whats going to be new in computer systems there will be the new Intel Quad-core chips in 2007.:)

Heh.. Well, that's not the story that comes through on this end... But I guess to each his own. I'm glad they are treating you well. Every HP I have ever serviced has been a complete piece of crap. I hate them.

The company I work for only uses HP and we have never had any issues in the years I've been there.

I will wait for Vista, but I do think your right, just jump in.

I guess the thing I will find hard is looking at the best options for each device and saying "do I need that or will this one do".

Still thanks for you replies.

Andrew
