How Far Can I Go??

Whats up guys i have a intell p4 prescott 3.4 and im overclocked to a 3.8 do u think i can go to a 4.0?? My temps right now on idle are 50 and load about 67-68.... I just would like to know thanxx...specs below.

depends a lot on cooling. That mother board (assuming its the one in you sig) is a s478 which mean your prescott is alway going to suffer from heat issue. I suspect the chip will take you there but your cooling will lag well behind. Your temps are already looking a bit high

Cooling and power my friend The Psu there is decent (http://www.antec.com/specs/sl400_spe.html) but i generally dont do any serious overclocking with anything more than ±3% voltage tolerance. But 4GHz should be doable.

Probbably somewhere around 80c but I wouldn't push it much higher than you already have.

im better off just leaveing it at 3.8 then im shure im not gonna see a crazy difference in 4.0..

No not likely, I wouldn't think you see a huge difference going from 3.4 to 3.8 (I'm sure you see something but it's not huge) but a 200MHz boost in CPU speed really wont mean anything. Are you using the stock cooler or do you have some aftermarket cooler?

Depends on what you're doing: a DVD encode with a 400MHz advantage will yeild a noticeable drop in encode time ... but you are indeed right about it not being a generally noticeable change
