how good is this cpu

Yes.. Artic Silver 5 has worked well for me.... even though your stock cooler will work you may what to upgrade in the future to a better one especially if your planning on overclocking..

It would be quite a bit better, would i upgrade from a 7850 to a 720? Nope, i would jus overclock that 7850 to 3.3ghz :P

EDIT: I didn't mention this before, but dude upgrade you ram!!!

I would get another gig in there, 2 gigs on 7 is fine, but 1.37 lol thats on the lower side of things, if you sig is accurate.

I have the 720BE with 4th core unlocked at 3.2, however, before I unlocked the core, I actually had it at 3.0GHz on stock cooling with no issues. It was waaaaaay quicker than my E6750 which was clocked at 3.4GHz, so yes, you would see a noticable increase, and yes, I would upgrade if I were in your shoes.

You also have the very very high chance of buying a quad core, because you will be able to unlock the 4th core if your mobo has ACC

yup! new that i could maybe unlock the 4th, wouldnt that be nice!!!:D

Not as high as one would like to think. I bought one months ago along with the M4A78T-E motherboard and the 4th core was not unlockable.

That aside the 720BE is a great cpu and you will notice a increase in performance in general.

Just because you had one bad one doesn't mean that there is now a 75% chance it won't :P

Every one I have used has unlocked, and that is 6, Stranglhold I think has unlocked quite a few and he only got one that wouldn't, so I am seeing 2 from maybe 20 chips, so a 90% chance from that quite small study, still shows that it is a very high chance, a chance I would be willing to save £40 or so over, seeing as how even if it won't unlock, you still get a tri core that will OC to 4GHz stable easily on air that will do everything you throw at it

I never said that there's a 75% chance it won't unlock. Where did that number come from?

I don't doubt that any of those people have unlocked multiple 720's but if you're buying just ONE, then don't expect it to be unlockable, but if it is possible then all the better deal for you. I'm merely saying that don't buy it on the chance that you'll get a extra core and get a ridiculously nice deal. Buy it for what it advertises to be, and that is a great value CPU.

It wasn't a real figure, I thought that the :P would show that.

And I didn't say buy it just because you have the chance it would be unlockable, I said it is potentially unlockable as an "also", by which I mean as a bonus if you can. I explained that I have the same CPU and had it in the same conditions that OP is asking about, then said that you have the chance to be able to unlock it on top of it being an awesome CPU already
