The hardest part will be finding the software to do, assuming you want to do it headless (no monitor). With a monitor it'd be really easy. You also need the little lcd display with the controls. If you can find those two things than its not a big deal. If you want to do it with a monitor and a full OS then its really easy

He's trying to make a DVD burner not a mini-DVD player.
 
I know. A lot of commercial DVD/CD burners have a little 2-4 line LCD display with like 2 buttons so that you have a couple different opts of what you can do with it, and so that you can tell it to start burning.

click on the link and theres a whole bunch of different models, all with that little control panel. We have the pic I posted up there in my office, I've used it. Its completely independent, no mouse keyboard or monitor, just the little control panel.
