How high could a stock Q6600 go?

on stock kooling? with good ventalation and a cool room MAYBE 2.7-3.0.... the $50 for a nice fan is really worth it, i put mine to 3.6 on a zalman 9700 and it idled decent but load temps were about 71C which is too high for me. but i need to replace 3 fans in my case and i have the hottest room in the house. and it sits under my desk, bad choice thetll be fixed soon. does he have B3 or G0 stepping? with B3 id b suprised if he got past 2.8...

Well the room is normally pretty warm, but his antec 900 has all 4 fans max'd and get some pretty good airflow. Dont know about the stepping, forgot to check

tell him to spend 50 bucks on a good fan HS/fan. itll b all worth it, then you dont have to worry as much. the case may have good airflow, but u gotta have sumthin good enough to pull the heat off the cpu and blow it away, a stock fan isnt gonna cut it for higher OC's

B3 i hit 3.3 avg, G0 i hit 3.6-3.8ghz.

that's impossible on a stock cooler, unless you have a golden chip with a VID at about 1.1v or something similar.

for OP, the higest at acceptable temps i got on mine is 3.2ghz at 1.40v, and it loads 75C on stock cooler. since it's a 65nm CPU, i would push it more but since i crunch on it 24/7 at 100% load, i just keep it around 73C
