How important is contrast ratio?

Contrast ratio is literally the difference between the lights and the darks that the monitor can display. If you have a higher contrast ratio, the things on the monitor will look clearer and more defined. The 3000:1 contrat ratio will look MUCH better than the 700:1, however, if you're on a budget, 700:1 isn't terrible.

Its all about how it looks to you. If you find 2 similar in price and seem to both look good, go with the better stats.

Some people can't tell the difference between a 3000:1 monitor and a 700:1 one. so in that case why pay more for the same thing?

Is the LG monitor good for gaming/dvds even with 3000:1 ratio or that doesn't change anything?

I'm doing LS vs the ViewSonic

The colours will be richer on a 3000:1 monitor, example:

I have an old ProView LCD nearby with a 450:1 contrast, whereas I'm typing on a monitor with 1000:1, so there's a big difference im the richness of the colours.

it depends on the brightness of the screen, also.

A 500 lumen display with 500:1 contrast ratio and a 1000 lumen display with a 1000:1 contrast ratio have the same contrast between lights and darks, the 1000 lumen display is just capable of brighter brights.

contrtast ratio is one of the most important parts of image quality. i'd say even more important than resolution when gaming. It makes the colors look richer, more defined, and "sharper" and blacks actually look black and whites actually look white. It you have a low contrast ratio, you wont be able to play any games/movies with a lot of dark or bright scenes cuz youd barely see a diff between a jet black and a dark grey.

Its like looking at a black and white comic book. High contrast ratio has shading. Low contrast, they just color everything black...
