How is cable installed into the home?

Hi guys.

I am currently on a 24Mb ADSL Package from TalkTalk.

Being upgraded to a 40Mb Cable package next week...

My master BT phone socket is in my mum's bedroom, and the secondary socket is located in my room, which connects to the router.

I have an engineer coming over next wednesday to install my cable modem and router, as well as any lines or extensions that need to be put in.

My question is, how is cable actually run??

Will a new line be installed into the house? Does it run over the existing telephone line?

I'd like to have the new box placed in my room next to my phone socket, and have been told that the engineer will be happy to do that providing I make the route easy and access sufficient to have said cables installed.

I just need to know what the engineer is actually going to do? Will he branch off the master socket? (will need to lift up floorboards to fit a new extension) or will a totally separate cable line be installed? (still need to lift floorboards)

Okay so I've done a bit of research and found out that cable does not use the BT line, so my question is now, where does cable enter the premesis?

My current BT line comes in through the loft... I'm pretty sure an engineer is not going to want to route the cable all the way up there just to have it sit next to our master socket.

If I can find out the it's place of entry I can figure out the best route for the engineer to run !

Cable internet is ran using RG6 cable here in the USA, should be using the same in the UK. Do you currently have RG6 cable wired inside your home? If not, then they will have to run a cable from outside to inside your home, most likely a basement if you have one. And then you can distribute the cable from there. If no basement then they will bring it somewhere near where a computer will be most likely.

Okay thanks for that.

There is no sort of cable running into our house currently, I suppose we'll just have to have it run into the house and most likely straight into my room where the router will be placed!
