How is my HDD losing 5gb everyday?

got a new laptop and have only dl'ed firefox after i installed win7 and the programs it came with. for some reason, i lose about 4-5gb of the hdd space everyday.

is this a sign of my hdd going bad? i thought it may be from the windows updates. i have only had my laptop for 10 days or so and the updates may have been 140mb's at most.... i've had maybe 5 updates...wonder what is making this happen
 
Have you scanned for malware/viruses using malwarebytes? Also, system restore can be taking up that much space as well. How big is your hard drive in total space?
 
no viruses i'm sure..... my hdd is 750gb's total, after win7 and programs installed it was about 660gb, its now at 630gb

how would i fix this if its the system restore?
 
thanks john, i did the 2nd option on that page. cleaned up 10gb.... i'll do that from now on, not sure if i want to risk doing the first option!
 
You don't want system restore using up all your space. I have mine set to use 5% of my HDD. As it keeps creating restore points then the old ones will get deleted.
 
Mine is at max 12% just in case.You never know what restore point I might need.
Even though I never ever use system restore since I watch my system as a gold iron.
