I'm keen on buying a completely new system, but i want to know if its worth waiting for pentium 5... does anyone know if the wait is going to be substantial? or is it coming out soon??

pentium 5 - thats gonna be quite a long time away. for tech. its hard to wait - when you finished waiting something better along the line will have come up, and then youll be wanting that. i would just get what is sufficient for your needs now, and upgrade later. also it depends on what you are using your computer for; eg. if it is just for internet, and word processing then the 6 year computer i still have is still up to the job.

The Pentium5 was announced? Whoa i missed something ... doesnt quite make since to introduce a numeric considering they just dropped the Pentium4 moniker

its for a full on gaming computer... so if P5 is on its way i can wait, but i might just go for amd...
cheers

I think he/she just assumed p5 would be coming out soon since there are p1-4s.

In the Pentium 4 class, there are different types of processors...

Perhaps but i was just checking but it seems the Pentium4 architecture is approaching a [potentially premature] end with the dropping of the Pentium4 should be an interesting year

True but I think that this will just be a marketing ploy. Pentium D and VIIV gives the impression of seperation from the Prescott

Potentially; sounds more than likely people would fall for that :P (btw didnt they scrap tthe VIIV name)

why an FX? All it is is an Athlon64 with an unlocked multiplier, so you can get the same performance for much less cash from a lot of processors.

Very true indeed, you also most likely won't notice the few increases in FPS with the FX when you could just as easily get a P4 for less with about the same preformance in gaming. If anything you could buy an old 2.6 or 2.4Ghz P4 and still be able to play your games with little to no slow down.

I don't know

I am not sure if that much money is warranted for the difference in performance......Some of them are pretty pricey :D

a 3500 or 4000 is the more economical choice, if you are big into overclocking the FX is the way to go but the other 2 are more than good enough for standard use.

Waste of money.

It a matter of opioun if it a waste of money. I certainly dont recommend the athlon 64 fx-55 to people because of the price but if someone wants one and have the money why should we tell them not to get it if it would make them happy having it.

I think it more reasonable to tell someone what performance increases you will get. Also what advantages you will get. Then let the person decide for him self if it worth the money. I think the goal here should be to give them the information not make choices for them (unless they ask for what we would choose).

I understand you was replying to robinia post who gave a even less helpful post then yours.

I just saying I dont like people telling me I wasted my money on a athlon 64 fx-55 when I have enjoyed having it greatly.
