How many Overclockers burned their CPU ?

they only burn if you push too far too fast and dont have decent cooling.
As long as you take ur time you should never get to the point where you burn your cpu.

I've never burned mine, the worst thats happened was that my computer didnt boot, but all i needed to do was reset the CMOS.

i was wondering why would the CPU burn if there is a smart power management
i mean it automatically shuts down if it passes a certain degree... say 90 C
why would it burn ? or there is anything else that could make the CPU burn other than heat ?

Never burned my CPU, worst thing was the same as for OMEGA. Windows just didn't boot, fixed that by lowering the FSB by 13MHz.

Well, I killed an older P4, but it was because I was doing some extreme overclocks with not great cooling, and I also got kind of careless with the thermal grease. Other than that, none, I have a A64 3200+ running at 2.5 GHz/1.55 vcore (would be 2.6, but it's unstable) and I have yet to even see heat issues.

Is it really even possible to burn out a CPU. I mean, as long as you have SOME cooling, it seems it would simply become unstable and lock up before it has a chance to fry... Though, I've never really overclocked so I don't know.

yeah that's what i was asking about
if the processor or (BIOS) is designed to shutdown at a certain degree of heat
how could it get burned ?

theres a video on toms hardware where they take several cpu's and remove the heatsinks from them while in operation, the Intel's froze while AMD's went up in smoke.
