how many rpms should a hard drive h ave?

im looking at these and am woundering if its worth buying one over 7200 rpm due to the high costs of anything higher. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2E16822136320,N82E16822136298,N82E16822148301 , I mainly will use it for downloading and videogames.

Some will spend on the WD Raptor models which are the ones that see 10,000rpm over the typica 7,200rpm sata drives used in most cases. The Raptors however are still rather limited in drive capacities while newer larger models are starting to be seen.

Out of those selected all see a 32mb cache while three are 640gb while the other two are 500gb drives for each brand. Capacity would be the thing to look at there since they are all 7,200rpm models to start with in the deciding factor with the prices being $5 more on the Seagate models and one WD seeiing $5 more then those.

like pc eye said, 7200 is pretty much standard. 10k would be awesome, if you really have money!

What about 15,000 RPM SCSI drives? Capacity somewhat limited last time I checked.

15k rpm drives in sas format in raid 0 would be best, but a 7200 rpm drive is just as good for the average person

Generally with SCSI and often some Raid setups as well you would need to add in a separate controller card. At one time however SCSI setups were considered the Cadillac or Rolls Royce as the means of increasing storage capacity due to the faster access times seen in that many years back. That proceeded the introduction of ATA33, 66, 100, 133 standards we have grown accustomed to at this point.
