How much does itunes costs for Ipod Touch?

I heard you need to get iTunes for the Ipod Touch 2nd gen to have it functional, that otherwise the iTouch is useless. Don't you have to pay a monthly fee for iTunes? If so, isn't there any other way to browser internet and listen to music on the iTouch?

There is no charge at all for iTunes, it is free software. It does cost money to buy music from the iTunes store but the program itself is completely free.
