How much does overclocking depend on the motherboard?

I was thinking about overclocking my Corsair XMS ram (even though I currently know very little about overclocking) but I was wondering if my motherboard would inhibit doing so. It's a decent motherboard but not the greatest. (See my sig.)

How much does overclocking depend on the motherboard?

Overclocking is entirely dependant upon the motherboard-- most timing and voltage adjustments used to OC are done via the BIOS.
 
its dependent on cpu, ram and motherboard the most. If either one is bad, then you'll have some issues when OCing.
 
OCing depends on the mobo 100%. Since the BIOS on the mobo controls the clock speeds and voltages. But well yea, everything else matters too, but not as much as the mobo.

On your ram set-up, do you have 3 512 sticks? If so, id take one out and run the other 2 in dual channel, it would be faster then having 3 512s cuz 3 sticks would make it run 2T.
