How much does it cost to purchase a new product key for Windows Xp pro ? i am now told the company I bought my computer from is not providing anymore keys because they are phasing out that system, although they offered to help online.

Do you have a COA sticker on your PC? If they sold it to you with Windows pre installed it should be on the outside of the PC.

no, it wasn't pre-installed...what they sold me was the computer from HeLL...advertized as being ready to use out of the box (I think they meant the litter box). They finally sent me the Windows Xp disc but no producy key. Maybe I'll just buy a new disc.

I would just toss a linux distro on there till you can save up for 7 or 8. If you do not have the key for XP I wouldn't buy one now.

Newegg sends out specials for 7 and 8 every now and again if your hardware can run it.

can I hook up my Dell monitor to another brand of console like Hp or Apple and use the same power adaptor and cords etc.?

Probably?

What adapters are on the monitor and on the other PCs?

EDIT: Can you link to what you have? I would be throwing a fit if they sold me a PC claiming to be ready to use with no OS

It's a Dell Optplex gx620, the tech guy at their place said he could help me but I don't think I'll ever order anything from them again or buy another re-fabricated computer ever.

If they installed Windows on that computer it should have come with a COA. Since it didn't one can only assume that it was an illegal copy of Windows. Every legal copy of Windows has a product key. That is what you are buying.

The Windows install on your computer has a product key. There are ways to find out what it is but I probably can't talk about it any further than that. The problem is would that product key work with the Windows Xp disc they sent you. If you tested it and it didn't work you would be left with a computer without a working copy of Windows.

well I found the product key on the unattend.txt file. Right now I am just waiting for my wi-fi connection to see if I can futher activate it. Hope Microsoft will understand the situation. Otherwise, I'll try plan B....
