I got ma P4 and I just am gonna use it for outdated games and internet. Its got a 256 video card in case that matters. I got 1 gig of ram. Will that be enough?

It depend on Windows version.
For 2000 and XP, 1GB is plenty.
For Vista, or 7, you'll need at least 2GB of RAM.

Yep. Also, 4gb is the norm for gaming computers (or 6gb for triple channel systems, which yours isn't). What are the specs for your computer (a link to it would be best)? It should support 4gb (2 sticks of 2gb). But if it is ddr I would probably just get another 1gb stick. Just post a link to your computer please :)

For newer gaming systems, yes. For games which a P4 could play, you are back to the days when 1 was enough, 2 helped in some games, but 4 was just wasted on the average user

Yea Im about to put a 256 video card in the PCI.

do you know if you only have 1 stick in there or do you have 2x512mb? it looks like (from the specs) that you only have 1 in there which means you should be fine getting another 1gb but i would make sure if i were you.

if you do only have 1 in there and get another 1gb, make sure it is 333 mhz and ddr.

yea itd be fine to to put another one gig in there, but I don't want to spend the money ifI don't have to.

For old games, I did fine with 512MB on Vista. You're fine with 1GB - I'm assuming that your computer takes DDR, which really ain't worth buying any more IMO (though if you find a good deal, you may want to consider it).

P4 + 256 Video Card + XP... 1Gig is enough. If I were you, I wont bother spending my money on a new RAM... I better spend it on my date... :D

Here is an idea Dave1701. Go to your local gym and join an aerobics class. There are usually a lot of women in those classes. Be patient as you go and get to know who is single.

Speak for yourself Russ88765 :D

My wife gives me far more comfort, support and entertainment than any video game. Pick the wrong woman though and your life will be miserable. Beware of women who want to buy beyond their income. This is not a fault of females alone though.

Heh, heh! Funny how this thread started out about RAM and now it is about women.

If I had to guess I would say {1GB - 256mb -1gb -256mb}, this keeps both channels balanced. Honestly, i dont think it matters though because once you opt to use 4 chips it is no longer a dual channel setup. Also, the memory is will down clock to the slowest rated chip (pc2700).

*Someone please correct me if i am wrong...

For best performance, add in pairs, add in same channel, and do not mix speeds. For dual-channel performance, DIMMs must be same size, same DRAM technology, same DRAM bus width, and either all single-sided or double-sided DIMMs. Brand and timing specs are not an issue. If speeds are mixed, default will default to the slowest DIMM.

What does this mean?

Are the 128 sticks even worth putting in?
