How much RAM for WIN XP Professional Service Pack2 ?

How much memory is needed for my Win XP prof. I use a PC with 1.7 Ghz processor, 256 MB of RAM. I find the PC very slow after installing XP. What will be the reason for this?

XP itself runs better with atleast 512mb of ram, and 1gb to 2gbs if your running any intensive programs or games

256MB is very low for XP if you actually want to run apps. I would go with at least 512MB, but since RAM is so cheap, theres really no reason you can't upgrade to 1GB... unless your computer can't support it.

It will run with 128MB, as I have it on my P4 1.4GHz... But as soon as you open two things, it just stops Hehe, I'd seriously go for at least 256MB, 512MB if you plan to do much more than just surf the web and type.

What kind of apps are you running. Background applications will kill your performance...
