How much should I up the voltage

Right now my Q6600 is at 3Ghz with 1.3V, and I want to get to 3.14Ghz (yes mostly because it's the first 3 digits of pi). When my cpu was at stock everything the auto setting was putting the Vcore at 1.3V, so I set the voltage to 1.3 volts, and tried to see how far up I could get on that. Turns out I was able to get up to my 3Ghz goal, so I tried to jump to 3.14Ghz but it froze at the Vista start up logo.:(

So in short, what should my max voltage be and what increments should I go up in? Right now my load temps are like 45C (well that's the highest of my cores)

P.S. PLEASE DON'T LINK ME TO THE OC 101, I want personal advice, I've read that already and will resort to that if I don't get any responses.
Thanks in advance

My friend runs his at 1.44 volts to get it at 3.6ghz. He has owned it for a year and a half OC"d like that and still no problems. Just bump it up by like .01 until you get it stable. Just watch your temps and you should be fine.

mine runs at 1.29V at idle all the way down to 1.23V during some tests in prime 95. I had to set the vcore to 1.34375 in BIOS to get these voltages in cpuz and hardware monitor. This was my first OC so I just took my time and raised the vcore 1 step at a time and 3375 is where I hit the wall. I get to 55c after 2 hours of prime testing.

Alright, I'll bump by .01, stay below 1.34, and try to not let my temps get higher than...55C? Would would you recommend?

just keep an eye on it in cpuz. For me at least, the BIOS setting is off but I'm not sure if it's like that for every setup. I wouldn't want to actually give my processor 1.34 though. Little increases do a lot to increase the heat. The highest mine ever got was 57C. I've heard most people say 60C is a good rule of thumb but IIRC the warning on my MoBo doesn't even kick in until 70C, so I think we're playing this really safe.

I hate that my VID is 1.32500, it's high to start off with. At the moment, I'm using 1.4v for 3.2Ghz, I could probably lower it a little though.

at your temps you need to stop whining :P

Though I can run 3.4ghz @ 1.4v but the temps are to freaking high. I would need to try a new cooler. I could easily hit 3.6ghz under 1.5v but cooling is my problem.

I thought about trying a TT120 but that's a lot of cash for a 50/50 shot on better cooling.

I run 1.350v @ 3.2ghz.

Also oddly enough @ 3.0ghz I can go as low as 1.28v and run stable. I might do that this summer ^-^

So, I got to 3.14 Ghz, set it to 1.315V. This is my first overclock, and I say I either did something right, or just got lucky. Thanks for the help to anyone who helped my, in this thread or others.
