i got both procs and i dont even like to use the p4 1.6 computer cuz its so slow, i mean just for browseing the internet its slow

but the 3700+ system hardly never lags whatso ever, i can be doing like 20 things at the same time without laggage, and it boots up in like 15 secs when the p4 1.6 boot time is like 1 min or more

it may be other things contributing to the slowness, old cpus accompany old hdd, vids, small sdram, etc....

in general i agree the question is a simple one, the 3700 is a significantly better chip. Though i would never throw the 1.6 ghz away, i wonder how much internet traffic flows on simple servers like a 1.6 ghz p4; more than you'd like to admit.

i got a P4 1.6ghz and i can boot to desktop in about 35-40 sec(with help of tunexp). and for internet and word processing it does just great. you have to trim the fat on windows to make it run fast though(msconfig and services.msc are good for that). i can have media player 10 open and be on firefox with mulit windows open and have zero lag.

the 3700+ chip is amazing compared to a 1.6ghz P4.
not only is the athlon 64 3700+ a better designed chip, but its clock frequency is higher!
right.. a 3700+ is compatible with better hardware, making it a better chip!
and yes, it performs like a P4 3.7ghz, or a P4 3700+mhz... which is why they named it the Athlon 64 "3700+"... DUHH
