I'm currently running an Intel P4 2.4Ghz, MSI motherboard, 768mb ram, 200gb HD, and an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 Video card. I've had this system for about 4 years, and the video card for about 3 years or so.. perhaps longer. My question is this.. can I simply upgrade my video card if I want to be able to play any new games on this thing? I recently downloaded a demo for the new Need for Speed Pro Street (Dec 2007), and it runs at about 1-2 fps. The previous NFS game "Carbon" released in 2006 runs decent, and any NFS game released before that runs like butter. Soooo.. Is it even worth trying to fiddle around by increasing the ram and video card, or should I just splurge and pickup a new system altogether? Is the chip, motherboard and ram in this thing likely too old now? Any thoughts? thanks!

You are really outdated even if you upgraded the videocard you would still have trouble playing new games. You need to build a whole new computer with a C2D, 2 gigs of ram, either XP or Vista and a decent videocard it all depends on how much you want to spend.

you know, the problem with upgrading a pc would be the new generation of memory. I mean, if you are going with a new processor or grafic's card, you'd end up having to get a new motherboard too, because else you would have to get a old processor, or an old grafic's card, wich would be outdated quite fast again.
for example, if you want a faster processor (because the 2.4GHz P4 isnt really much good anymore for the latest games, since those are actually getitng quite heavy on the processor too), you would have to get a new motherboard to actually suppor that processor. wich would again lead to having to buy new RAM wich actually fits the motherboard too. also a new grafic's card, because I'm fairly sure the one you have atm is on AGP,.. and AGP cards are getting quite rare to get new, and even if you find some, they are WAY overpriced for the performance you get now.
My suggestion would be to save up more money, and go for a new pc. (I mean, yes, you could upgrade some things on that pc, but I would only do so if you can get the parts very cheap, or 2nd hand for that matter. because else it would be a pretty big waste of money. ( and that would kinda suck
