How phones pick up incoming calls

Hi,

I was unable to find any descriptive article or video on how phones keep in standby to be always ready to pick up incoming calls.

Any pointers on this topic would be appreciated.

Are you talking about mobile phones? In which case, essentially each mobile will take a very small slice of bandwidth within a bandwidth range on the electromagentic spectrum from the local cell tower it is connected to. The switching hardware can then determine on what frequency incoming calls need to be routed to.

What sort of information are you looking for? That is very broad. Cell phones always maintain an active connection to the cell tower.
