How serious is my problem (laptop power problem)?

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum, and extremely grateful to anyone who can help :)

Basically, my charger cable fraid/frayed so i cut it in two and wired it up again using a wire connector, no issue.

Anyway, after wear and tear they came loose and it was late and i was tired and re-wired it but completly ignored the positive/negative wires...so they were the wrong way round.

When i plugged it in everything went dead.

Anyway, switched it back on and it was fine...it wasn't charging however. the mains cable maintained the charge (it went down about 1% a day).

One day i turned it on and the cable wasn't plugged in and the battery died, and seeing as it won't charge i'm left unable to turn it on in any way at all.

A comedy of errors for sure. Pc world asked for 230 just to look at it...but i wondered if you guys would have any ideas how serious the issue is(Battery or laptop)? I have bought a new charger already, obviously.

Thanks guys.
For reference it's a Samsung R60 Plus

Thanks in advance :)

$230 to look at it?! At the shop I work at we would probably charge $160 max (full disastrously) but I suspect it wouldn't even go that far.

It's not the battery; the laptop should work fine without the battery, just running on AC. However, I wouldn't rule out problems with the board since you have been running a damaged cable and did short it out. See if you can find a universal jack somewhere and power it up. We test that for free at our shop so maybe some near by shop will at least confirm the laptop powers up using a universal charger

I'm in England so it's £230 which is even more than $230!

So will the new charger not be able to support the laptop on it's own?
Should i take the battery out and try it with the new charger?

Thanks

the battery should be still good. It is board problem. but it isn't serious. it just costs around $150 in our location (Canada)

wow.... after reading your all post's i must say my country is "heaven" you can have repair tanks, ships in couple bucks..:P
it would cost just "free" for checking and if repair needed then max to max 100 buks for everything..........
