I've just recieved my new DM3 and its full of junk, alot of HP apps, and some Microsoft ones since its a Microsoft Signature PC.
they also gave me only one partition of 290GB, and one more RECOVERY partition of 12gb (What the f**k?). Can I remove this recovery partition (Do I really need it?)
and how can I format the laptop? (I dont have any optical drive, and no Windows CD came as well)

thanks alot - Reg.

you REALLY want to keep the recovery partition. if you ever get a virus, or something worse, all the files are right there to reinstall windows and make it run like new. just uninstall all the extra programs you dont need

wait, can I simply format using the RECOVERY partition ?

I want to split up my 290gb drive, to C and D of 40GB and 250GB..

Without a cdrom drive and an actual install cd, there isn't much you can do. Thats the bad thing about these small netbooks, no cdrom drive which makes things really hard unless you have a usb external cdrom drive.

How bad do I need this Recovery drive ? I want to delete it, but I have no idea how important this is..

I have a 4GB Sandisk usb, which I made bootable, can I download the Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium directly from Microsoft website, and then use my Serial on it ?

I would not touch that recovery partition. Until you actually have an install cd. And you can't download it from microsoft without buying the software.

Hmm ok.. then how can I re-partition my hard drive ? any free recommended software ?

and regarding all the HP bloatware, is there anything recommended to leave in the computer before I uninstall them all? Only thing I found useful so far is the HP 3D DriveGuard thingie

I uninstall all bloatware if possible, but thats just me. Don't need unnecessary programs running at bootup.

Hmmm no chance to re-partition it using the HP Recovery ?
Damn, I'd give anything right now for a fresh operating system..

and btw, whats a better power saving plan?

"HP Recommended" or "Microsoft Signature Power Plan" ?

All the HP recovery will do will reinstall the os and programs that came with your system, it won't let you repartition the drive. You should be able to edit the power settings to your own liking.
