How to block a certain web site.

I would like to know how to block a web site mainly facebook & myspace because my kids will go to those web pages and leave the computer on that web page. I believe those add. keeps putting spyware on the computer, and just the other day my daughter went to facebook and the computer caught the virus Personal Antivirus.
 
As far as I am aware Facebook and Myspace aren't huge "breeding grounds" for viruses, you may want to moniter what other websites your Kids visit.

But as far as blocking websites go, you can usually do this through your Software Firewall on your computer, or with your Router. If you post the model and make of your router, and any other software protection you have we might be able to help! :)
 
On teh contrary myspace and facebook are notorous for viruses and spyare.. I have seen hundered of pc's i have worked on that had this issue... Mindbender do you have a router that the connect through or just one pc using a modem?
 
You are lucky then i have seen 10's in the past 2 weeks wiht personal antivirus on them... Its amazing how many things are lurking out tehre on these sites... If you are smart you can avoid them but even my mother in law who is a good pc user got personal antivirus from going to a friend's page the other day on facebook its a nasty one..
 
if you flip it over it will have the model.. you should be able to open up a browser window and go to 192.168.1.1 and log in with admin password as the login and password it will usually be printed on the bottom of the router if its differnt
 
I disagree. I think if you aren't out and about signing up for free crap and clicking on want to meet up tonight ads, then you are farely safe from the malware and crapware that is Myspace and/or Facebook. Goto 192.168.0.1 or whatever your router login page is. Leave the username blank and for the password it's: password as the default for NetGear routers. Then there is a tab for firewall/page block settings. You can input certain addresses be it URL or IP's to block from and to your router.

Really though?
Get netnanny or get a machine-side keylogger to monitor your kids' activity. Seriously, if anything it's the people out there talking to your kids you should worry about, not stupid old myspace or facebook ads. (To be rid of the ads, only let your kids use Firefox and install the Firefox add-on Flashblock and that will remove 80-90% of the ads on facebook and myspace)
